Barbara was a primary school teacher for thirty years, after which she worked for a decade in a NFP organising grants for Overseas Aid projects in third world countries such as South Sudan, the Philippines and Burkina Faso.
She is originally from Griffith, spent 25 years in Sydney and moved Berry in 2017 after her four children left home.
She joined Zonta because she wanted to help disadvantaged women and girls in the Shoalhaven, and support Zonta projects worldwide, as well as widening her social network in the local area.
As well as Zonta, Barbara loves reading, Bridge, and spending time with her nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Being a local real estate agent in Berry, I get to see firsthand some of the challenges faced in our local communities.
My business and role within Raine & Horne Berry allows me to be in contact with people from all over the Shoalhaven area, from all different backgrounds industries and socio-economic statuses.
I joined Zonta Berry to use my expertise to make a difference to lives in the Shoalhaven Region.
Karla moved south 25 years ago and commenced her real estate career in Berry two decades ago.
Her career has seen her travel across the country to mentor, train and support business owners their teams in many varied social demographics.
Property Management is a dynamic industry where 82% of property managers are woman. This industry witnesses first hand the struggles of colleagues, customers & clients in traumatic and difficult situations such as single mums, victims of DV, children with medical issues, loss of loved ones and the list goes on.
With the highest rate of homeless people in Australia being a woman over the age of 60 Karla believes that as women, we need to help gift each other with support at every opportunity and being a member of Zonta is the best way to do this.
As a charter member of Zonta Berry I have enjoyed and benefitted from the opportunity to assist women in our community and to make long term friendships with other members.
I worked in the field of Deaf education for forty years and spent many hours kayaking, reading and gardening in my spare time. Since retirement I have also played tennis and been involved in other community groups.
It has been a privilege to be a part of an organisation which has a positive impact on so many women and their families both locally and internationally.
